It puzzles me how many times women get subjected to bizarre comments from men and are somehow supposed to just accept them, thank them, and carry on with life as though everything is wonderful in Equality-land.
In the last week, these are some of the beauties that have shown up in my newsfeed…
“She shouldn’t have gotten drunk; then she wouldn’t have been raped”
“Your picture is so beautiful – you should be with me”
“Oh look! You have BOOBS!!”
“You’ve moved to another country? Nawww, come back! I want to be with you!”
Seriously, am I supposed to deduce my entire self worth because of what I look like? If I were to treat men the same, what would be the response?
“He shouldn’t have gotten drunk – that way he’d be able to control himself better, and not rape chicks”
“Your picture is so sexy – you should be with me”
“Oh look! You have abs!”
“You’ve moved somewhere further away from me, even though when you were nearby I didn’t do anything about it? I’ve changed my mind now – come back! I want to be with you!”
Seriously. This is how you sound.
Let’s stop basing so much opinion on being because of their aesthetics. Sure, attraction is often begun with physicality, but it doesn’t have to carry on that way. Engage in conversation – talk to eachother – be daring and actually give a shit about a person’s habits / mind set / dreams / personality – even if that DOES sound cheesy.
Embrace the cheese.
