You Can’t Control the Night

A huge theme of the last couple of weeks has been racism. Which sucks. I’ve spent the last couple of months working with young people between third and sixth grades, so it guts me when I hear kids battling with eachother about colour.

So, I did what I always do. I wrote a new song. (Second in two days!!) I’ll be posting a live recording of the track on my Facebook page on Friday if you want to check it out!

But for now… here’s the lyrics!

It’s an open box
That you have stolen
What once was locked
You went and broke it
An empty word
To try convince me
You were my rock
But now you’re empty

And I see the labels cast against me
I see the colours thrown upon me

But you can’t control the night
So why are you hiding?
You can’t control the night
Don’t try to fight it

One open flame
To light the danger
One and the same
To break the anger
An open door
To new solutions
You were my rock
But now you’re broken

And I see the labels cast against me
I see the colours thrown upon me

But you can’t control the night
So why are you hiding?
You can’t control the night
Don’t try to fight it

And I see the labels cast against me
I see the colours thrown upon me

But you can’t control the night
So why are you hiding?
You can’t control the night
Don’t try to fight it
