New book + companion album from TEDx speaker and award-winning singer-songwriter Emma G empowers teens and adults to transform pain into power through songwriting, somatic healing, and neuroscience.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 2, 2025 – Amid a national surge in anxiety, burnout, and emotional fatigue, artist-educator and empowerment coach Emma G is rewriting the narrative on mental health – literally. Her new book and album, Mental Health Sounds Like This, will be released on July 30, 2025, blending storytelling, music science, and trauma-informed practices to help readers reconnect with their voice and take ownership of their healing.
More than a memoir or workbook, Mental Health Sounds Like This is a creative blueprint for healing, mindfulness, and self-discovery — perfect for teens, educators, creatives, therapists, and adults navigating stress, loss, identity shifts, or emotional overwhelm.
Pre-orders are now available on Bandcamp, with the book set to release via Amazon and the album streaming on Spotify, iTunes, and more.
5 Potential Story Angles for Journalists & Media
- “The Soundtrack of Recovery”: How a singer-songwriter turned her story into a creative healing framework — one that complements therapy and helps people process emotion through songwriting.
- “When Therapy Meets Melody”: Why more educators and mental health professionals should be integrating creative coaching and music-based tools into emotional support plans.
- “Voice as a Tool for Healing”: How singing and songwriting help people regulate emotions, reconnect with their bodies, and reinforce the work they’re already doing in therapy.
- “Culture, Creativity, and Care”: A trauma-informed, culturally grounded approach inspired by Pasifika values — bridging emotional resilience, voice empowerment, and education.
- “Beyond Talk Therapy: The Rise of Integrative Healing”: How creative coaching can offer a safe and empowering add-on to traditional counseling, helping teens and adults alike express what words alone can’t always capture.
A New Path for Mental Health—One Song at a Time
Following her 2022 TEDx Talk “How Songwriting Saved Me After Ten Brain Surgeries”, Emma G formalized the five-step songwriting process she’s been using with clients since 2019. Rooted in both Western psychology and educational practices and Pasifika teaching principles, the book integrates somatic voice work, neuroscience, and songwriting coaching to guide readers through an emotional transformation — from stuck to expressive, from silenced to empowered.
What’s inside:
- How singing and songwriting support emotional regulation, neuroplasticity, and trauma recovery
- A five-part framework that turns emotion into music, and music into momentum
- Exercises, journal prompts, and creative tools for healing
- A companion album of original songs, including “Superhero,” “Be Brave,” and “Grieve” — each aligned with a chapter theme
- Real-life stories of transformation, both from Emma and the clients she’s coached through songwriting
Timely and Timeless
While developed long before the pandemic, the book’s relevance has only grown. Reports from CNN, the American Psychological Association, and the Washington Post have spotlighted the mental health toll on both teens and adults — highlighting the urgent need for innovative, accessible healing resources.
“This book was born out of my lived experience,” says Emma G. “After 10 brain surgeries, I had to find a way to make sense of everything I was feeling. Music was my medicine —and now it’s my mission to help others turn their emotions into creative power.”
